Dhurandhar 2 - The Revenge !!

Dhuran-dhar 1 by Aditya Dhar,  It has evolved into more than just a film, it’s a full-blown internet wave. I especially loved the music aspect of it(From Retro to modern to reimagined versions of songs all hit the spot). From the viral Rahman Dakait swag, reel worthy ideas like "first day as a spy", hook steps in shararat song to the hilarious "Peak Detailing observations" served as a self sustaining ad to the movie.

While Part 1 focused on world-building and character depth, Part 2 shifts gears to center stage to Ranveer Singh, who owns the screen with a performance that balances emotion, swagger, and mass appeal (with special credit to his hairstylists wo made him a model for Adivasi Hair Oil” 😉). The origins story of Ranveer in this part is beautifully done, the action sequence at the start is masterfully shot. You see them in many International Web series but not in mainstream Indian cinema. This is stylized and orchestrated violence that is essential in this genre and Dhar bhai has nailed it.

This film thrives on scale of action, stylized storytelling with louder patriotic energy. This is a long movie but using a chapter-based structure (inspired by Kill Bill) helps it build individual plots and hold audience's attention. It’s designed as a theatrical spectacle not something you will enjoy at home on your tablet just like KGF or Salaar.

But with such scale comes responsibility. This Part -2 blends fiction with real-world events, heavy political undertones, and nationalistic messaging. While engaging, this mix can feel heavy-handed and, at times, risky for impressionable audiences. I know I have friends who can be convinced Game of Thrones is real and dragons exist in some remote islands. When cinema operates at this magnitude, a more balanced and nuanced approach goes out of the window. But they have been pretty straight at putting  names, faces and parties and have given them a positive screen time.  As long as we think it is entertaining we are not complaining but all this will be used as content to market a vulnerable audience. They went as far as justifying Demonetization.

Going into details - the film stumbles with weaker antagonists compared to the iconic Rahman Dakait, excessive cussing, and reduced dialogues. So many sound design errors and video quality issues and the menacing characters played by Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal felt powerless and in so many scenes they just acted mindlessly to further the plot. You really need this aspect to be strong in a spy thriller but they didn't. It was quite easy for Hamza bhai. Without revealing anything a scene that Madhavan waited for 23 years, A Gaurav Gera closure and the last scene to surprise makes up for these lapses. At one point, I wished we breaked for a Sanjay Dutt ad about cancer awareness telling us not to smoke. Meanwhile, every frame Rakesh Bedi ji is in leaves you wishing for an “uncut version” of his Jamali-style humour. I think the Bade saab was a missed opportunity. No tension buildup, no extra intelligence, no extra resources  to make him the all powerful villian, all felt too easy and predictable. This is where Rahman Dakait was truly missed. There is one scene where Sher-e-Baloch is written in English on a Gun presented by Balochis to Pakistanis.. Peak detailing error.

In the end, Dhurandhar 2 delivers what it promises. Scale, spectacle, and easy entertainment. It may not always be subtle or tightly written, but it pushes the boundaries of mainstream Indian cinema especially in this genre which needs good story tellers. As a big-screen experience, it’s paisa vasool ,while also leaving room for Dhar bhai to evolve into more layered storyteller in the future and maybe for God's sake avoid pushing the agenda that Demonetization was a masterstroke But he has done it with conviction and anything of this scale will garner praise and criticism and he has done a damn good job of it.

Tell what you felt like , apart after watching the movie and enjoying it..Any scenes you loved? :)
