Numaish - Still a Disneyland ?
Every city has that one place that feels like childhood, like memorable family winter evenings, favourite food memories, Numaish for many is like that, happiness wrapped in lights, noise, smell of popcorn in every 50 feet with new and interesting stalls every year to explore, what once used to be an industrial exhibition has evolved over time to cater all.
For generations, it has been more than just an exhibition. It’s our very own Disneyland.
A place where religion, status, age, or gender quietly disappear into the crowd. Where everyone walks the same dusty lanes, eats from the same food stalls, bargains at the same counters(yes, a street smart skill that gets sharpened), and goes home with the same tired legs and full hearts. Few places bring people together like Numaish does for Hyderabad. Every year record number of crowds.
Originally meant to showcase industrial innovations and new products, the exhibition has slowly transformed. Today, it’s a vibrant carnival of shopping — clothes, bedsheets, curtains, home essentials ,everything under one sky. Yes, social media, Amazon, and Flipkart may deliver faster. But they can never deliver this feeling of Numaish. Because Numaish isn’t just about buying things.
It’s about experiencing them.
The men drift toward the food stalls, hunting kebabs, chai, and late-night snacks.
The women move with focus and flair, bargaining like pros, sharpening a skill passed down through generations. Kids run toward the rides, lights reflecting in their excited eyes.
And the whole family carries back bags filled with spices, pickles, dry fruits, and ingredients sourced from every corner of India.
From Kashmiri shawls to chikankari suits.
From fancy crockery to quirky jewelry.
From embroidered men’s kurtas to surprisingly good perfumes.
Every small stall tells a story. Every purchase feels personal.
The annual rituals never change - getting on giant wheels, watching Maut Ka Kuan, tasting something new, discovering something unexpected. It quietly shows how we’ve progressed as a generation, what used to feel luxurious now feels accessible, yet still special.
Yes, the crowds are heavy. Traffic can be frustrating. Some stopped coming because of that.
But many have rediscovered it as families, as friends, as couples realizing that happiness sometimes lies in simple, chaotic evenings together.
For shoppers, it’s paradise.
For influencers, it’s a dream setup for viral content.
For everyone else, it’s memories in the making.
Whether you spend ₹50( The entry fee) or ₹50000, you never walk out empty-handed.
You walk out smiling… already talking about what you’ll buy next year.
And behind it all, the seamless arrangements and the tireless efforts of the police and organizers make sure this massive celebration runs smoothly year after year.
Numaish isn’t just an exhibition anymore.
It’s emotion. Tradition. Togetherness.
One of the last few places that truly brings Hyderabad together. I went twice this year and got some doormats, bedsheets, kurtas and cute keychains not seen anywhere.
